On Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 3:10 p.m., I received a recorded call from "Steve from Dish Network." He said they were "in your neighborhood" and were offering a special deal on satellite service with free installation. If I was interested, Steve said, I should call 1-800-615-1621 and reference my promotional code, "A12604."
I called the number and a woman answered, "Satellite Systems."
"Hi, I just received a recorded call from you," I told her.
"Would you like to speak with someone?" she asked.
"Sure," I responded.
She transferred me to a male operator who opened with, "Satellite Systems Network."
"Ya, I just received a recorded call from you," I said.
"That was probably about our Dish Network promotion." He went on to tell me about the special deal they were running -- two receivers and remotes at no cost, free installation, etc. All I had to do was sign up for a year of service at $45.98 per month.
"And where are you located?" I inquired.
"We're a Dish Network retailer located in Dana Point, California."
"Okay, well I don't think I'm interested at this time." I thanked the operator and we parted ways.
